Lyngen Alps

Trip detail Lyngen Alps

Ski mountaineering and freeriding in Norway is a unique experience: you start on skis from the sea level and cross wild and fascinating landscapes straight to the peaks while enjoying amazing views of the fiords. Tromso is the main city of the area, located on a small island, surrounded by other larger islands and by the important Peninsula of Lyngen.

In the central area of the Peninsula, where we spend most of the time, we find similar peaks to the Alps, with glaciers of an altitude up to over 1800m, whilst skiable peaks in the fiords are around 1000-1500 meters high.

Mid-April is the perfect season to visit the area because the long day-light creates a unique scenario: the sun never reaches its zenith and this particular light creates dreamlike atmospheres. Skiing staring at the sea with the magical lights of Norway is truly unforgettable.

According to weather and snow conditions, Snow Life offers medium-length itineraries with a difference of altitude between 750 and 1500 meters, suitable with a decent physical preparation.

Given the particularity of the trip, we prefer working with small groups with just 5-6 people for each instructor rather than big groups. Our guides are freeride specialized ski and snowboardinstructors, they know Norwegian mountains perfectly as well as they can identify the best itineraries and they are legally entitled to take people off-piste, except for those itineraries where mountaineering equipment (ropes, ice axes and crampons) is compulsory.

Years of experience on the field allow us to arrange a flexible program by always having one or more backup plans in case of better weather conditions in other locations and quickly understanding the needs of the group.

The trips are not technically difficult. However, a good competence of the techniques of ascent and descent together with by a good physical preparation is required. The ground in Norway is generally safe but it is always better to pay the utmost attention: safety is Snow Life first priority, for this reason, avalanche equipment is compulsory.

Like all SnowLife's trips, “Lyngen Alps” is not simply a ski tour trip but a 360-degree experience, whose aim is to live to the fullest the wild nature of this fascinating land.
